Good Good Calming Dog Chews: A Review

If your dog is anything like mine, they have anxiety when it comes to certain things: thunderstorms, fireworks, the vacuum, and driving in the car.

When my dog gets scared of something, she likes to crawl underneath a desk. She also uses this spot when there is just a lot going on in the house and she needs to get away from everything.

We knew Fourth Of July was going to be an issue for her, so we thought we would give Good Good Dog Calming Chews a try and see if they would help keep her calm during the fireworks.

What Are Good Good Calming Dog Chews?

Good Good Calming Dog Chews advertise on the bag that the chews “help manage stress and promotes balanced behavior “.

Each treat contains as its active ingredients: Taurine, Ashwagandha, L-Theanine, L-Tryptophan, Magnesium, Chamomile Flower Extract, Lemon Balm Leaf Extract, and Passion Flower Extract.

Good Good Calming Dog Chews also contain probiotics to support your dog’s digestion.

How Are Good Good Calming Dog Chews Administered?

These Good Good Dog Calming Chews are given by mouth. The amount you give to your dog is based on your dog’s weight.

The directions state to give one chew per approximately 25 lbs. of weight. According to the bag: give 1 chew for dogs up to 25 lbs., give 2 chews to dogs 26-75 lbs., and give 3 chews to dogs over 75 lbs. This is the maximum amount to give your dog per day.

Why Did We Choose Good Good Calming Dog Treats?

We chose to try Good Good Calming Dog Chews for a few reasons. First, we liked that the chews didn’t contain any crazy or unnecessary ingredients to create the “calming” effect on our dog.

Second, our dog has some digestive issues and we thought it would be a good idea to give her a treat that also contained probiotics to promote good digestion.

Third, these treats are Made in the USA with US and globally sourced ingredients.

Lastly, they contain the NASC (National Animal Supplement Council) quality seal. This means they must meet certain requirements in order to obtain the seal including compliance with quality standards and random independent testing of their products to ensure they are meeting their label claims.

How We Used It

We began by giving our dog one chew for a few days and then increased the dosage to her maximum dosage of 2 chews.

When we first gave her the chews, she pretty much passed out. She seemed very relaxed and slept a lot. By the third day, she was acting like her normal self with the one chew.

When we increased the chew dosage, we still did not notice any changes in her behavior.

The Flavor

The flavor of these chews is pork liver and apple. Apparently, our dog thinks this is a delicious combination. She absolutely LOVES the taste of these.

All I have to do is open the bag and she comes running for them.

The Calming Chews

The calming chews are soft chews and measure approximately 0.5 inch square.

The Result

After being on the maximum dosage for a few days, Fourth of July finally came about. We waited until about 30 minutes before the barrage of fireworks began.

Instead of hiding under the desk like she usually does, she stayed in our family room, albeit between two couches. This was a big improvement for her.

Also, our dog did not experience any upset stomach from taking the chews.

Recently, we decided to give our dog some of these calming chews before going on a walk. Our dog is usually a big puller and she was actually much calmer on our walk after being given the chews about a half hour before.

Pros:

  • Great flavor (apparently!).
  • Easy to chew.
  • Does not produce an upset stomach (at least in our dog).
  • Calms but does not sedate.

Cons:

  • Haven’t found any yet.

Overall Impression

If you are looking for a calming treat to chill your dog out without them passing out, Good Good Calming Dog Chews are a good option to try.
